(#2) 5/7/10
I thought of a new idea for a glazing technique instead of dipping my pots. Because i ran out of high fire clay, dipping is not an option anymore, so I decided to focus more on under glaze styles. I am using the trimming wheel as a tool to spin the pottery while putting under glaze on it. Getting a spiral look on the pots and using transparent glaze over it has looked awesome so far.
4th Marking Pd (#1) 4/23/10
I have been throwing on the wheel regularly. I ran out of “special” clay and can no longer dip my pots in the “special” glaze. SOOO I have planned to focus on underglaze techniques for now on. I am building up my arsenal of bowls and plates for the art show coming up!
(#4) 3/19/10
I’ve been back throwing on the wheel since 3/8, and it has been a few weeks. I started throwing as much as I could, trying to get back into a routine. I try and make at least 2 good pieces each day. Working on the wheel has been my niche throughout the year with some good and bad times, but I still enjoy it.
(#3) 3/5/10
I am currently injured with a separated shoulder and cannot work with clay. I hope to be back on the wheel asap, hopefully by next week.
(#2) 2/18/10
Throwing, throwing, throwing I separated my shoulder playing hockey so I can’t throw for a few weeks, but I had been making a lot of pieces prior to that. I am really comfortable on the wheel now. Its taken time, but I realized I can’t rush myself, and thats when my best work comes out.
(#1) 2/5/10
I have been throwing on the wheel a lot, making some successful pieces and some unsuccessful. I am throwing whatever comes to mind, no specific shape in specific. I want to work on trimming and footing my pots better. I have good forms, but when I go to trim my work I either ruin it or make it uneven. Sometimes I trim them well but I want to get better.
Surveillance drawing is a pain and definitely not my strong point, but I am slowly getting better at the technique.

Fall Semester 2009
(#7) 1/15/10
I have still been throwing on the wheel, just not every day! I worked a little on making things by hand just to get used to it again. I am going to head back on the wheel every day to make as many pieces as possible. In ART class abstract painting has been fun! I feel more comfortable knowing abstract can be whatever u want it to be. I think abstract is my thing and produced 3-4 good paintings already
(#6) 12/18/09
I was going to start sculpting, but instead I just kept throwing. I have some good days where I make pieces and some really bad ones where the clay doesn’t seem to be agreeing with me. I am going to get back into it and try and get my techniques down to a science.
(#5)12/7/09
Throwing on the wheel is getting old! I am throwing every day and don’t see tremendous results in my production. I think I might move towards making sculptures and other pieces by hand. Honors art is going well. I am almost finished my 2 diptych paintings on hockey and ceramics and feel that they interact well in a unique way.
(#4) 11/18/09
I am making bowls with lids right now. I am in a slight slump with throwing, and keeping pieces centered, creating a slanted look. I feel that I need to wedge my clay more. I hope to make more bowls with lids because the lid in itself brings a very pleasing look.
(#3) 10/20/09
This Heroic Identity assignment, with the playing cards is much more complex than I had imagined. I am painting the cards but cant seem to figure out where I’m going with it. I have 5 white and 5 blue cards now. What is my heroic Identity? I’m sure I will come up with something, I just don’t know what yet!
(#2) 10/14/09
Going into Honors Art is a great feeling. At first I felt lost, and felt that I was lacking the mindset of an artist of this style. I am so used to just throwing and not having to explain myself. Now I am getting used to thinking abstractly and deeply like a true artist.
(#1) (9/8 – 9/21)
Midway through the 1st marking period, I feel confident that I am back into the swing of things and I am as comfortable on the wheel as ever! I started with smaller pieces of all different shapes to get re-acclimated. I have assessed that although my production has been of good quality, it has not been as much quantity as i have hoped for. I plan to throw as many pots as I can by the end of October, and hope to reach at least 40… Good year so far!!!!
